About Us

Aurora Collegiate Academy is a college preparatory K– 5th grade charter school serving children from across Memphis. In 2012, our school was established with the fundamental belief that the foundation for academic and character success needed for college begins in kindergarten. We serve a diverse population of students in grades K-5 from all over Memphis and the world, and over half of our students come from Spanish-speaking homes. We pride ourselves on providing extensive support in literacy and language.

Core to our mission, we unequivocally believe that every child, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, or incoming academic level is capable of achieving high academic success. We hold that it is every child’s fundamental right to be provided with a tuition-free, academically rigorous public education. All of our students are capable to get to and through college.

Along with academics, character is of the utmost importance. We instill the following five values in our scholars through daily teaching:

  • Personal responsibility: We are committed to the highest level of achievement and behavior
  • Respect: We show respect at all times for each other, for property, and for differences.
  • Integrity: We do what is right even if doing the right thing is more difficult.
  • Determination: We work harder in the face of adversity.
  • Excellence. We participate fully in everything we do.

Parents

At Aurora, parents are our partners in the pursuit of a college education for our scholars. We value the engagement of our families at school and encourage constant academic updates between parents and staff. We have an open door policy with our families and we encourage our families to schedule a visit anytime.

We have many events throughout the year to involve our families at Aurora. Please check with your scholar’s teacher about individual classroom events like classroom celebration and project presentations.

Three times a year we hold mandatory parent-teacher conferences. Parents are provided with an in-depth picture of how their scholars are performing academically and behaviorally. Teachers have the opportunity to share growth, progress, and areas for improvement. Teachers provide ideas to parents on how to best support scholar learning and their areas for improvement at home. Parents are also provided with detailed attendance reports and an opportunity to ask any questions. We work with our parents to ensure a mutually agreed upon meeting time.
